CALL US FOR FUTURE BLOOD SAMPLING AFTER SEEING YOUR DOCTOR.

Do you leave your medical office with a prescription and you need to have blood taken or to undergo a specific test ?

Our client service team will have answers to your questions, pieces of information or they can make an appointment.

In order to complete the full account of your health condition, your doctor will ask you to have blood taken, for various prescribed tests to be run and to identify or to confirm any potential health problems.

Reliable and risk-free, the sampling can be made with no problems in a sterile environment in your own house. Our recommendation is to be on an empty stomach and not to have consumed alcohol prior to certain blood sampling procedures (your doctor or the registered nurse from our medical company will outline that). The nurse will take blood by using a needle directly from your arm vein. The samples, divided in one or several flasks, will be sent directly to our partner private medical laboratory for analyzing purposes. The results will be sent to your doctor within 24 hours, unless otherwise duly notified.

Your doctor may subsequently review in detail the results of your blood samples during an appointment. He/She will provide to you explanations regarding this blood test and will answer your questions. Then he/she will decide with you what treatment best suits your health condition.

Are you afraid of needles? Our professional skilled team will know how to take blood in a painless way directly at your home, rendering the medical procedure easier.

A FEW RULES TO FOLLOW BEFORE OUR REGISTERED NURSE COMES TO YOU

You are to undergo a sampling operation and you ask questions about the actual procedure. In order to avoid incorrect blood sampling results, it is important to follow several pieces of advice, which will obviously be reiterated to you by your physician when he/she prepares your prescription :

It is important to be on an empty stomach for most blood sampling times, at least 12 hours before the registered nurse’s visit. In addition, any alcohol or narcotic consumption is forbidden at least 48 hours prior to sampling. Ask your physician for advice if you are on any medication, in order to assess with him/her whether you should suspend it before blood is taken.

It is therefore crucial to follow the procedure that your doctor outlines for you. The results of your blood samples need medical assessment and detailed interpretation. How should you decipher data and figures that contain a lot of information regarding your health?

THE HEMATOLOGICAL TEST

This test gives you an idea of all the elements that compose your blood. Blood sampling thus reveals all the abnormal signs of dysfunction in your body. The blood is composed of a liquid called plasma, where lots of cells can be traced, such as red cells, white cells and platelets, to which proteins, vitamins and so forth can be added. Blood sampling thus enables an accurate diagnosis establishment or the monitoring the course of a disease.

More information about the red cells :

The red cells play an essential part in our body : they transport oxygen throughout the blood and it is them that give the blood its red colour. In order to assess the results of your blood samples, please note that their number has to be comprised between 4 and 5.5 million/mm3, with rates ranging between 12 and 16g/100 ml.

What happens if my rate is outside the reference range ?

Your red cell rate is lower than what’s normal : your red cells find it difficult to supply all your organs with oxygen, hence the sensation of tiredness, difficulties during exertion, which is called anemia in medical terms. The first cause of this abnormally low rate is iron deficiency.

An abnormally high rate is far rarer, as this usually happens after an extended stay at high altitudes. No need to worry. Your doctor will inform you minutely thereabout in his/her office.

Another important piece of data from your blood results is MCV, that is the mean corpuscular volume. A MCV lower than the average indicates iron deficiency, while a higher MCV could be caused by excessive alcohol consumption or a vitamin B12 shortage. In case of doubt, your physician will ask for more detailed clinical examinations.

More information about the leukocytes :

Commonly known as white blood cells, their role is vital. If we only mention one type of leukocyte, this one would be the lymphocytes, which play a defensive role in our body against anything harmful that comes from outside of the body. A healthy individual has 4,000 to 10,000/mm3 of them. A higher rate indicates a bacterial or viral infection (for instance a urinary infection). Real indicators of the state of our immune system, the leukocytes reveal extremely severe diseases such as AIDS, where the body is weaker and very exposed, hence its difficulty in fighting all infections, even the most innocuous ones, because of the reduced number of leukocytes in the blood.

A bit more information about platelets and the sedimentation rate :

Here is a good example of how platelets work in our body : You’ve just cut yourself. From that moment on, bleeding will stop little by little thanks to the work of the platelets, which gather themselves for closing the wound. Somebody who does not have enough platelets will thus have difficulties in stopping the bleeding, and the blood will keep on flowing : it’s the case of the haemophilia. Maintaining a normal rate, namely 150,000/mm3 to 410 000/mm3 is therefore essential.

Another important piece of data : the erythrocyte sedimentation rate or ESR. This rate is normally very high during pregnancy. It may indicate cancer or a mere inflammation. Your doctor will interpret these results from the standpoint of your health condition.

THE BIOCHEMICAL TEST

There are several factors and measurements to take into account for your blood results.

More about your glycemia :

It is the amount of sugar present in your blood. Blood sampling should take place on an empty stomach in order to avoid the results getting skewed. Keep in mind that we can come to your place 7 days a week and 24 hours a day.

Too weak a concentration indicates hypoglycemia : dizziness, fatigue etc. Then the body feels the need for sugar input in order to ‘get the motor running’.

Conversely, a sugar rate exceeding the normal values reveals hyperglycemia, which is a sign of pre-diabetes or diabetes. A normal rate would be between 4 and 6 mmol/L.

In order to mitigate the risks of diabetes complications it is important to make wise dietary choices adequate to your condition, to exercise regularly, to monitor your blood pressure and your cholesterol.

More about creatinine :

Produced by the muscles during exertion, this is cleared by the kidneys directly into the urine. In practice, its rate should not exceed 115 umol/L in women and 150 umol/L in men. Above that the kidneys will get damaged and the cause of dysfunction will be looked into, from this point of view.

More about your cholesterol :

There are two types of cholesterol : the good one and the bad one. You will see it from your test results, namely by the two abbreviations : LDL – the bad cholesterol and HDL – the good cholesterol. The bad cholesterol accumulates in your arteries, as opposed to the good kind, which clears the LDL out. Knowing whether one has increased cholesterol or not is important, as it is one of the leading causes for cardiovascular disease.

In order to avoid the accumulation of bad cholesterol, nothing is better than a healthy lifestyle : the consumption of fruit and vegetables, of less red meat and animal fats ; in exchange, more fish rich in Omega 3 and of course sports, walking...

More about iron, sodium and potassium :

More exactly, it is the ferritin that we look for in the blood rather than actual iron. It is the ferritin that stores the iron in our body. The normal rate ranges between 50 and 204 µg/L in women and between 50 and 280 µg/L in men. In case of women, this iron deficiency is quite common, especially because of the menses.

Is your iron rate weak ? There are countless food items that contain iron : red meat, poultry, dry fruits and so forth. Here again, a healthy diet will be your best ally.

As for potassium and sodium, their rates will be recorded in your blood sample results, as well. They are indispensable minerals in your blood. Your physician will know how to interpret these results and to make appropriate recommendations. Certain health conditions and the use of medication call for a strict monitoring of these minerals (for instance hypertension, antihypertensive drugs, diuretics).
